Over the last couple of years Brunswick Zebras has discussed the possibility of returning to our original name after changes to Football Australia’s naming policy. We were originally called the Brunswick United Juventus Juniors. While Juventus is not an English word, it is a Latin word meaning youth and is broadly familiar and well known amongst football enthusiasts. Our team was founded as the junior and development squad for Juventus – a Melbourne based team founded in 1948 and named after Juventus of Turin. We became the BU (Brunswick United) Juventus when the Club moved to Brunswick and the Juniors set up at Sumner Reserve in 1964.
Brunswick Zebras Football Club has an unbroken linage back to the BU Juventus Juniors. We have returned to the name Brunswick Juventus Junior Football Club (maintaining our nickname: Zebras). There has been a small alteration to our current emblem to reflect the name change whilst maintaining our traditional black and white strip.
